Ebersöhn, Eloff and Ferreira in Maree (2010: 128) graphically
depicted the action research process as in Figure 7.1 below. From
the diagram, it is clear that research and practice are very closely
linked in action research. Action research is driven from the outset of
the process by a practical challenge and/or a social issue that drives
the process. The important role that critical reflection plays in
improving the practice of the researcher is also evident. It is also
significant that the action research process is a never-ending cycle
that provides opportunities for both personal and professional
growth, based on the research findings. The strategic planning and
execution/implementation of the plan requires changes to the
personal/professional practice of the researcher as prerequisite for
change /growth to happen. E
